We've heard it many times here at Harley Farms; "I wish I could eat it, but I have to watch my cholesterol", or "I'm lactose intolerant". That's when we smile and start quoting some of our favorite facts. Did you know that on average compared to cows milk cream cheese...

  • goat cheese has about 1/3 less calories per ounce.
  • goat cheese has about twice as much protein.
  • goat cheese has about 1/2 the fat and cholesterol then cow's milk cream cheese.
  • goat cheese is safe for many people who are lactose intolerant or have other milk-related allergies. It can be easier to digest because the fat cells are smaller, which makes them more closely resemble human milk. This also allows the fat to be broken down naturally by your body's digestive system.

Here are some more interesting facts about the healthy benefits of Harley Farms goat cheese.

  • Goat milk based cheese compared to cow's milk cheese--cream cheese has 9.9 grams of fat per ounce and cheddar cheese has 9.4 grams. Harley Farms chèvre has a low 5.5 grams of fat.
  • Goat cheese is similar in calcium and phosphorus to cow cheese,  but higher in potassium, Vitamin A, thiamin and niacin.
  • Our goats are fed hay and grain and receive no antibiotics or hormones.
  • We use vegetable rennet in all our cheeses.
